Nasir Abbas Tarar is a politician and a leading philanthropist hailing from Chot Dheeran, Tehsil Malakwal, District Mandi Bahauddin. He is the Chairman of Pakistan Public Aid Trust (PPAT) that is supported by himself, his family and supporters/donors in Pakistan and those Overseas, especially the ones residing in Europe. PPAT is a major donor of Akhuwat – Pakistan’s largest Interest Free Microfinance Institution. In the recently held local body elections, Nasir Tarar convincingly won the seat for the Chairman of Union Council 80 independently. He keenly follows the positive form of politics i.e. to bring change by providing to welfare to those in need, be it in terms of fighting for their rights or by creating opportunities for those who need it in order to excel. His aim is to bring a socio-economic change that leads the district towards being a tolerant society, development oriented, economically sustainable and peaceful.
Nasir Tarar believes in the principle of philanthropy very strongly. Over the past 5 years, he and his family has spent over Rs. 250 million from their earnings, for the development of the poverty struck and to provide solace to the disaster struck in Mandi Bahauddin and elsewhere. Public benefit programs under his philanthropy includes activities related to WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene), Social Protection for Orphans/Widows, Poverty Alleviation with Akhuwat by establishing an interest free microfinance branch in the village of Chot Dheeran, Health interventions, Skill Development, Capacity Building and by promoting healthy and sports activities among the youth.
